WWE to Reduce Live House Shows by 20%, Industry Experts Weigh In on Profitability Concerns

WWE is planning to reduce the number of live house shows from 250 to 200, according to TKO President Mark Shapiro. Eric Bischoff, former WCW executive and WWE SmackDown Director, shared his thoughts on this decision based on his experience in 2019. Bischoff revealed that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, there were discussions about the lack of profitability of house shows, with the company often barely breaking even.

Bischoff suggests that WWE could benefit from using UFC’s residence in Las Vegas to provide wrestlers with the experience they might miss due to fewer house shows. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer also weighed in, explaining that the reduction in live events is due to the high costs associated with running house shows, which have only become moderately profitable for WWE in recent times.
