Nigel McGuinness returns from retirement for match against Bryan Danielson, reveals financial reasons behind 2011 exit
Nigel McGuinness is set to come out of retirement for a long-awaited match against Bryan Danielson, following a brief appearance at AEW All In London. The two wrestlers last faced each other in 2009, after which their careers took drastically different paths. While Danielson went on to achieve great success in WWE, McGuinness retired in 2011 due to various setbacks.
In a recent interview, McGuinness revealed that the real reason behind his retirement was financial rather than health-related, as previously believed. He explained that he couldn’t make a living as a wrestler anymore, with limited options available at the time. McGuinness stated that returning to Ring of Honor wouldn’t have provided enough income, WWE wasn’t interested due to an old injury, and he was reluctant to go back to TNA. With no other viable alternatives to earn a living in wrestling, he felt he had no choice but to retire.
