Netflix’s WWE Deal Raises Eyebrows as McMahon Documentary Set to Air Months Before Raw Debut
Netflix is set to air WWE Raw starting January 2025 as part of a $5 billion deal. However, the streaming giant is also releasing a documentary about former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in September 2024. This situation has raised concerns among industry insiders, including WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff, who finds the timing confusing and potentially damaging to WWE’s brand.
Bischoff speculates that Netflix might be releasing the documentary early to distance WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, from McMahon before Raw’s debut on the platform. This comes in the wake of McMahon’s resignation from all duties at WWE and TKO Group Holdings in January 2024, following serious allegations of sexual misconduct. McMahon had previously retired in 2022 due to a scandal involving hush-money payments to former employees.
