Mercedes Moné and Bianca Belair made history at WWE WrestleMania 37 by becoming the first women to have a singles match in the main event of WWE’s biggest show. This event was particularly significant as it was also WWE’s first live audience event since the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions began to ease. The match marked another milestone, as Moné and Belair became the first two Black women to headline WrestleMania simultaneously.

In a recent interview, Moné described the match as one of her proudest achievements and recalled the overwhelming emotions she experienced. She shared how the moment felt surreal, realizing a dream she had since childhood. Moné emphasized the significance of the event, stating it was “bigger than us, bigger than wrestling.” The emotional intensity was so great that both wrestlers had to compose themselves to avoid crying in the ring.

Since this groundbreaking match, WWE has not featured another women’s match as the WrestleMania main event. Currently, only Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Moné, and Belair can claim the distinction of headlining WrestleMania in a women’s match. Additionally, WWE has not showcased another main event featuring two Black participants since Moné and Belair’s historic encounter.
