The first-ever inferno match in WWE history took place in 1998, featuring Kane against The Undertaker. This groundbreaking event required extensive preparation and safety measures, as revealed by Kane on The Undertaker’s podcast, “Six Feet Under.”

Kane described the rushed and intense backstage preparations, which occurred just hours before the match. He was fitted with a special nomex sleeve coated in cooling gel to protect him from burns. The wrestlers received strict instructions on how to position themselves to avoid injury, with warnings about the real danger of severe burns if safety protocols weren’t followed. Kane had to remember all these safety measures while simultaneously performing the match.

Despite the extreme nature of the inferno match, Kane participated in multiple such events throughout his career. Another wrestler, MVP, who also experienced an inferno match against Kane, recently shared his thoughts on the terrifying experience.
