ESPN’s Joe Tessitore joins WWE Raw commentary team in strategic move to boost mainstream appeal
Joe Tessitore, known for his work on ESPN, has joined the WWE Raw commentary team alongside Wade Barrett. He’ll be filling in until January 2025, when Michael Cole and Pat McAfee are expected to return. Former WCW executive Eric Bischoff sees this move as a strategic decision to attract more advertisers and improve WWE’s mainstream appeal.
Bischoff believes that bringing Tessitore on board is primarily a business move aimed at increasing ad sales and breaking down stigmas associated with professional wrestling. He predicts that even if Tessitore’s performance is average, his mainstream influence will likely lead to more advertisers and sponsors for WWE in the next 12-18 months. Tessitore will continue his other broadcasting duties, including play-by-play for college football and boxing on ESPN and ABC, alongside his new role in WWE.
