Chad Gable Reveals Heel Turn Was His Idea, Felt Stalled as Babyface

In a recent interview with The Gorilla Position, WWE Superstar Chad Gable disclosed that his recent heel turn was his own idea. Gable expressed feeling his character had stagnated as a babyface, particularly after several high-profile losses, including matches against Gunther and Sami Zayn.

Gable’s frustration peaked following his loss to Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the April 15th edition of Raw in Montreal. This defeat, occurring in Zayn’s hometown just after WrestleMania, prompted Gable to snap and attack Zayn in front of his family.

“I felt like I flatlined as a babyface somewhere around WrestleMania,” Gable explained. “I came up short against Gunther a few times. Came up short against Sami. At a certain point, something has to change, or people are not going to buy into you any further.”

Gable believed the Montreal setting was the perfect stage for his heel turn, and the timing aligned with his desire for a character change. He also feels the turn has benefited his storyline with Otis, making Otis a sympathetic figure for the audience.

Despite his new heel persona, Gable was unsuccessful in his attempt to capture the Intercontinental Championship from Zayn at Clash at The Castle. However, WWE’s apparent faith in Gable suggests his storyline with Otis and Zayn will continue to develop in the coming weeks.
