AJ Styles Reveals Why Dream Match with Shawn Michaels Never Happened
In a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, WWE star AJ Styles discussed his unrealized dream match with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. Styles revealed that while he inquired about Michaels’ interest through a third party, likely Triple H, the match never materialized.
“I remember walking up, it may have been Triple H or someone,” Styles recalled. “I asked him, ‘Hey, does Shawn wanna have a match?’ And they’re like, I don’t know. [I said] ‘But did we ask him?’ And they’re like no.”
Styles admitted that he never directly approached Michaels due to not being close enough with him at the time. However, he believes that even if he had asked, Michaels likely wouldn’t have agreed to the match.
“The truth is, he probably wouldn’t have that match anyway, because we’ve talked about it before,” Styles stated. “What is the benefit? Who benefits from the match? If Shawn wins, okay. If I win, okay.”
Styles acknowledged the validity of Michaels’ concerns about the potential outcome of the match and its overall impact. While he expressed that it would have been fun to wrestle Michaels, he ultimately accepted that it was not meant to be.
“There’s a lot of truth to what he was saying when he told me that and it’s alright,” Styles concluded. “It would have been fun to have but for me it was about a learning experience.”
