Cash Wheeler, a two-time AEW World Tag Team Champion, recently discussed his legal troubles from last year. In the summer of 2022, Wheeler was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm, an incident that occurred just before AEW All In 2023. The case took nine months to resolve and was ultimately dropped in Wheeler’s favor.

Wheeler described the experience as a “very rough patch” and explained his decision to not accept any plea deals. He maintained his innocence throughout the process, despite the risk of facing up to five years in prison if found guilty. Wheeler expressed frustration with the case, stating that there was no physical evidence, witnesses, or documentation to support the accusation. According to him, the entire case was based solely on one person’s statement.

The wrestler emphasized the potential consequences of accepting a plea deal, which could have resulted in losing his job with AEW and being unable to travel internationally. Wheeler and his tag team partner, Dax Harwood, have announced their intention to retire when their current AEW contracts expire, which is believed to be around 2027.
