Will Ospreay to Defend AEW International Title Against Ricochet on Dynamite’s 5th Anniversary
Will Ospreay is set to defend his AEW International Championship against Ricochet on October 2, marking the five-year anniversary of “AEW Dynamite.” This upcoming match has sparked discussions about their previous encounters, particularly their famous and controversial battle during the 2016 NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament.
ECW legend Tommy Dreamer recently shared his thoughts on the 2016 match, describing it as “insane” and likening it to “video game wrestling.” He noted that while the match had both positive and negative aspects, it significantly boosted Ricochet’s career. Dreamer expressed excitement for the upcoming AEW match, anticipating an impressive display of athleticism from both performers.
Ospreay and Ricochet have a rich history of competition, having faced each other over a dozen times in various promotions. Their last singles match took place in August 2017 at WhatCulture Pro Wrestling, shortly before Ricochet joined WWE. Now, seven years later, they find themselves reunited in AEW, with Ricochet holding an undefeated 3-0 record in singles competition within the promotion.
