Gail Kim Reflects on Progress in Women’s Wrestling, Highlighting Evolution from Novelty to Main Event Status
Gail Kim, a veteran of professional wrestling, has highlighted the significant progress made in women’s wrestling since the start of her career in 2000. In a recent interview, Kim noted that when she began, women were often underutilized or treated as novelties in the industry. However, she expressed enthusiasm about the current state of women’s wrestling, where female performers are now regularly headlining major shows and pay-per-view events.
Kim emphasized the positive changes in the industry, such as increased match time for women wrestlers, allowing them to tell more complex stories and showcase their skills. She acknowledged that while there’s still room for improvement, the strides made have been substantial. Since retiring from full-time in-ring competition in 2018, Kim has transitioned to behind-the-scenes roles, initially as a producer for TNA Wrestling’s Knockouts division, and more recently in the company’s talent relations department.
