AEW and WWE engage in trademark battle: Jericho’s catchphrase, “Shockwave” show, and “Austin 3:16” expansion

Recent trademark activities have stirred up the wrestling world. AEW’s Chris Jericho is trying to trademark his “Hi guys!” catchphrase, while the company itself is pursuing the “Shockwave” trademark for a potential TV show. WWE, not to be outdone, is working on trademarks for new star Giulia and the famous “Austin 3:16” phrase.

WWE’s recent move to re-file the “Austin 3:16” trademark might seem odd, as they’ve owned it since 1999. However, the new filing expands the trademark’s coverage to include more entertainment services like exhibitions, performances, and wrestling news. This broader protection suggests WWE is looking to use the iconic phrase in more diverse ways. The trademark activity also hints at a continued positive relationship between WWE and Stone Cold Steve Austin, even though the legendary wrestler has made few appearances since his comeback match at WrestleMania 32.
