The Rascalz face setbacks in WWE NXT, SmackDown stars interfere in tag match ahead of NXT’s CW debut
The Rascalz, a tag team from TNA Wrestling, have faced a series of setbacks in their partnership with WWE NXT. After being attacked by former teammate Wes Lee, they lost their chance at the NXT Tag Team Titles due to Trey Miguel’s unexpected minor surgery. This forced a last-minute replacement in their scheduled match against champions Axiom and Nathan Frazer.
The Street Profits from SmackDown were brought in to replace The Rascalz, but this created a dilemma for officials. They didn’t want The Street Profits to lose, nor did they want to change the NXT Tag Team champions. To resolve this, they orchestrated an interference by SmackDown stars Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Jacob Fatu, resulting in a no-contest. This interference is part of a strategy to build excitement for NXT’s upcoming debut on The CW network in October, hinting at potential appearances by main roster stars on the show.
As part of this crossover initiative, high-profile wrestlers CM Punk and Randy Orton are already scheduled to appear on the first two episodes of NXT when it moves to The CW. This move aims to generate more interest and potentially boost viewership for NXT in its new broadcasting home.
