Eric Bischoff reveals WCW and ECW strategies for standing out against WWE
Eric Bischoff, former WCW boss, recently shared insights about his approach to professional wrestling, drawing parallels with Paul Heyman’s strategy at ECW. Both leaders aimed to differentiate themselves from WWE by showcasing fresh talent and unique styles. Bischoff emphasized that their goal was to be different rather than directly compete with the industry giant.
In WCW, Bischoff introduced the Cruiserweight Division, featuring faster-paced matches and unfamiliar talent. This move was crucial in distinguishing WCW from WWF and maintaining strong ratings. Bischoff noted that the nine o’clock hour became as important as the main event. While he popularized the term “Cruiserweight,” Bischoff credited Heyman for introducing smaller-sized wrestlers, particularly Luchadors like Rey Mysterio, to television before WCW did.
