WWE to Cut Live Events by 20% in Profit-Driven Move, Prioritizing TV Deals and Talent Health

WWE is planning to reduce its live events from 250 to 200 next year, with only about 40 non-televised shows. This decision is driven by financial considerations, as the company aims to improve profit margins. While house shows are somewhat profitable, they’re not as lucrative as television and media rights deals, which have become increasingly important revenue sources for WWE.

Industry expert Dave Meltzer suggests that running fewer live events could be beneficial for the company and its performers. With most of WWE’s income now coming from TV deals, non-televised shows are seen as less necessary and potentially risky for talent health. This shift marks a significant change from the past when a grueling live event schedule was considered standard for wrestlers. Additionally, WWE has been focusing on expanding its international presence, hosting more events in foreign markets, including recent shows in Germany.
