WWE to Reduce Live Events by One-Third, Focusing on High-Margin Shows

WWE is planning to reduce its live event schedule in 2024, focusing on cutting back “low-margin” house shows. TKO President Mark Shapiro announced that the number of live events will decrease from about 300 last year to around 250 this year, and further drop to approximately 200 next year. This change comes as the WWE brand is seen as “on fire,” with the company believing it no longer needs to rely on marginally profitable events to grow its fanbase.

The decision has been met with positive reactions from WWE talent, who are looking forward to spending more time at home with their families. This shift in strategy marks a departure from former CEO Vince McMahon’s approach, which viewed house shows as crucial for expanding the company’s audience. The reduction in live events is one of several changes implemented since WWE’s merger with UFC to form TKO, under the ownership of media firm Endeavor. Notably, McMahon recently stepped down from his role as President of the WWE Board of Directors amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
