Matt Riddle optimistic about WWE return, cites CM Punk’s comeback as inspiration
Matt Riddle, who was released from WWE in September 2023, has expressed optimism about a potential return to the company. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Riddle cited CM Punk’s recent comeback as evidence that reconciliation is possible, even after significant conflicts. Despite his departure stemming from an incident at JFK Airport and burnout from WWE’s demanding schedule, Riddle believes the door remains open for his return.
Since leaving WWE, Riddle has been active in other wrestling promotions, including MLW and NJPW, where he won the NJPW World Television Championship in February. During his six-year tenure with WWE, Riddle achieved notable success, winning the United States Championship once and holding tag team titles in both Raw and NXT. While he acknowledges the possibility of never returning to WWE, Riddle remains open to the idea, stating that his chances of going back are “extremely high” if he continues to work hard and improve.
