WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray questions Hell in a Cell match for McIntyre vs Punk at Bad Blood
WWE has announced that Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will face off in a Hell in a Cell match at the upcoming Bad Blood event. This will be their third encounter, with each wrestler having won one match previously. However, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has expressed reservations about this stipulation for their match.
Ray, speaking on the “Busted Open” podcast, suggested that an “I Quit” match might be more appropriate given the personal nature of their feud. He explained that the conflict between McIntyre and Punk, which centers around a broken bracelet, would be better resolved by forcing one of them to verbally submit. Ray believes this would be more humiliating and fitting for their storyline than the Hell in a Cell structure.
Despite his concerns, Ray acknowledges that WWE’s choice of Hell in a Cell might be tied to the anniversary of the first such match, which took place at Bad Blood in 1997 between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. While he supports a third match between McIntyre and Punk, including a gimmick stipulation, Ray questions whether Hell in a Cell is the best option for these particular competitors.
