A controversial moment occurred during AEW’s All Out event in Chicago when Jon Moxley choked Bryan Danielson with a plastic bag. This act revived a controversial wrestling spot from 35 years ago, which many thought would never be seen again. The original incident took place in 1989 during a WCW event, where Terry Funk suffocated Ric Flair with a plastic bag, resulting in severe backlash and nearly causing TBS to remove WCW from its lineup.

Bully Ray, speaking on “Busted Open Radio,” commented on the incident, noting the violent implications and drawing parallels to the Funk-Flair incident. He also discussed the contrast between AEW’s approach to violence and WWE’s policies. Ray recalled Vince McMahon’s strict rule against using common household items as weapons in WWE programming, aimed at preventing children from imitating dangerous acts they see on TV. This highlights the potential risks associated with AEW’s more lenient approach to violent content, especially concerning young viewers who might try to replicate such actions.
