Bret Hart’s Surprise WWE Return Sparks Confrontation with GUNTHER, Supports Sami Zayn in Calgary
Bret “Hitman” Hart made a surprise appearance on the WWE Raw season premiere in Calgary, despite recent health concerns. The wrestling legend used his time to criticize current WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER and support fellow Canadian wrestler Sami Zayn. GUNTHER interrupted Hart’s speech, mocking his legacy and claiming to be superior. This led to Zayn coming to Hart’s defense and challenging GUNTHER’s reluctance to defend his title.
The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation between Zayn and GUNTHER, which had to be broken up by WWE officials. Hart hugged Zayn afterwards, receiving thunderous applause from the crowd. During the segment, Zayn wore a Calgary Flames jersey honoring Johnny Gaudreau, a hockey player who, along with his brother, tragically died in a recent drunk driving incident. This marked Hart’s first WWE appearance since 2022’s Clash at the Castle event, where he had previously criticized GUNTHER’s performance.
