AEW Explores Non-Exclusive Media Rights Deal, Sparks Speculation About Potential Fox Partnership

Rumors are circulating about AEW’s potential new media rights deal. While a new agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) seems likely, there’s speculation that it might not be exclusive. AEW has trademarked the name “AEW Shockwave,” leading to questions about whether the promotion could fill the wrestling slot on Fox networks previously held by WWE.

Reports suggest that AEW has been in talks with Fox, although Fox has not officially commented. Fox reportedly liked the ad revenue from WWE SmackDown but found the show expensive. They are interested in a more affordable wrestling property. However, it’s unclear if a deal between AEW and Fox is possible or if AEW can negotiate a non-exclusive contract with WBD. The current exclusivity agreement with WBD, which led to the cancellation of AEW’s YouTube shows, runs until the end of 2024.

While negotiations continue, WBD appears committed to sports programming, planning to rebrand part of TruTV as “TNT Sports.” Fox also has multiple broadcast options available, including FS1 and Tubi. The relationship between AEW and WBD is reportedly positive, but the outcome of these media rights discussions remains uncertain.
