Swerve Strickland defends controversial AEW All Out match amid criticism over extreme violence
The recent Lights Out Cage Match between “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland at AEW All Out sparked controversy due to its extreme violence. The match featured dangerous elements like barbed wire, a staple gun, and needles, leaving some viewers uncomfortable. Strickland, however, defended the match on social media, posting photos of the brutal encounter and reminding critics that it was an “unsanctioned” match, implying that such intensity should be expected.
Strickland has a history of participating in violent matches, dating back to his time in CZW and Lucha Underground. A previous Texas Deathmatch between Page and Strickland at AEW Full Gear last November also drew attention for its graphic content. Despite the criticism, Strickland seems unphased, embracing his reputation for pushing boundaries in professional wrestling.
Following his defeat at All Out, Strickland is expected to take some time off from AEW. While he appears to be physically fine, there’s no set date for his return to action. Strickland recently signed a contract extension with AEW, ensuring his future with the company despite the controversy surrounding his latest match.
