Netflix Unveils Trailer for Controversial Vince McMahon Docuseries Amid WWE Distancing

Netflix has released the first trailer for “Mr. McMahon,” a six-part docuseries about Vince McMahon’s career in wrestling. The series will cover McMahon’s takeover of the company from his father and his recent downfall following a lawsuit accusing him of sex trafficking. It’s set to air before WWE Raw moves to Netflix in early 2025. Although WWE was initially involved, they’ve since stated they have no official connection to the project.

The documentary has sparked discussion among wrestling personalities. Conrad Thompson, speaking on a podcast, suggested that the series’ executive producer, Bill Simmons, is creating a critical “hit piece” that WWE likely disapproves of. Thompson noted that the documentary features interviews with journalists known for their critical coverage of wrestling.

Thompson also addressed the broader issue of separating artists from their work, particularly in cases where public figures have disappointed their fans. He acknowledged that while McMahon has created memorable moments for millions of fans, he wasn’t always a good person. Thompson argued that it’s possible to appreciate someone’s work while recognizing their personal failings, a perspective he applies to other controversial figures in wrestling history.
