Matt Hardy recently discussed his controversial Broken Rules match against Sammy Guevara at AEW All Out 2020. The match was briefly stopped when Hardy suffered a head injury after being speared off a scissor lift onto concrete. Despite showing signs of a concussion, the match was restarted and Hardy eventually won.

Reflecting on the incident, Hardy took responsibility for not ensuring the tables were properly positioned, which could have prevented the injury. He also acknowledged that wrestlers often push themselves to continue even when injured, stating that sometimes they need someone else to make the decision to stop the match. Hardy believes that while Tony Khan faced a difficult choice due to the match stipulation, the bout should have been stopped.

On a positive note, Hardy feels the incident led to improved concussion protocols in AEW. However, he mentioned that Guevara was later suspended for violating these protocols in a separate incident involving Matt’s brother, Jeff Hardy. This suggests that the company has taken steps to enforce stricter safety measures following the controversial match.
