Swerve Strickland reveals Army Reserve inspiration behind his unique wrestling persona
Swerve Strickland, a former AEW World Champion, has revealed the origins of his unique wrestling character. In an interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Strickland explained that he developed his distinctive style during his time with Lucha Underground, where he performed as the masked wrestler Killshot. Faced with tough competition from world-class luchadors, Strickland realized he needed to stand out in a different way.
To differentiate himself, Strickland drew inspiration from his experience in the United States Army Reserve. He adopted a more aggressive, combative style in the ring, moving away from pure athleticism and towards a more brutal approach. This strategic shift allowed him to create a unique persona that helped him secure television time in a highly competitive environment.
Fans can expect to see Strickland’s militaristic wrestling style on display in the near future. He is set to face his longtime rival “Hangman” Adam Page in a Steel Cage Match at the upcoming All Out 2024 event, where his distinctive character and in-ring approach will likely play a significant role.
