WWE executive suggests Kane would have excelled in pandemic-era cinematic matches

During the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE produced several memorable cinematic matches to entertain fans when live events weren’t possible. These included the Boneyard Match with AJ Styles and The Undertaker, the Firefly Funhouse Match between John Cena and Bray Wyatt, and the unique Money in the Bank ladder matches at Titan Towers.

WWE executive Bruce Prichard recently discussed on his podcast that WWE Hall of Famer Kane would have been well-suited for cinematic matches during the pandemic era. However, Prichard noted that such matches wouldn’t have worked as well when Kane was at the peak of his popularity, as fans prefer to see their favorite wrestlers perform live.

While cinematic matches gained prominence during the pandemic, WWE has a history with pre-taped matches. One early example is the Boiler Room Brawl between Mankind and The Undertaker at SummerSlam 1996, which has since become a fan favorite. The first pandemic-era cinematic match was the Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36, filmed at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
