LA Knight reflects on challenging Pitch Black Match, discusses career growth since facing Bray Wyatt

LA Knight recently discussed his experience in the Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match against Bray Wyatt at last year’s Royal Rumble. The unique match took place in near-total darkness, with only glow-in-the-dark accessories providing visibility. Knight described the challenges of wrestling in such conditions, stating it was difficult to see and that “things were coming at you from nowhere.”

This match, which Knight admits was not his best performance, turned out to be Bray Wyatt’s final televised match before his unexpected passing in August 2022. Despite the emotional context the match now holds, Knight viewed it as a learning experience and an opportunity for growth.

Since then, Knight’s career has indeed improved. At this year’s SummerSlam, he defeated Logan Paul to win his first WWE title, becoming the new United States Champion. Knight is set to defend his newly-won title against Santos Escobar on an upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown, following Escobar’s victory in a number one contender’s match against Andrade.
