Jim Ross Points to Corporate Decisions as Culprit in WCW’s Demise

In a recent episode of his “Grilling Jr” podcast, AEW announcer and Senior Advisor Jim Ross discussed the demise of WCW, attributing the downfall to corporate decisions rather than the actions of any single individual, such as Eric Bischoff.

Ross stated, “I don’t think you can lay it on one guy… I think it’s a team effort, so to speak. But I think he hit the nail on the head. The upper brass that called the shots and wrote the checks, so to speak, decided they didn’t want to play ball.” He further emphasized his belief that the decision was made at the corporate level, leading to the company’s swift demise.

While acknowledging that Bischoff receives his share of blame, Ross questioned the validity of this criticism. He expressed his belief that the lack of internal support for Bischoff played a significant role in the company’s struggles. “He did a great job there. And you know, his infrastructure didn’t support him as well as it should have, in my opinion. He did a great job. Politics got involved, egos got involved. And he had a very heavy ego company, talent-wise, that had its own opinions and way of thinking and doing things.”

Ross concluded his remarks by highlighting his own decision to leave WCW and join WWE as a pivotal moment in his career. He expressed pride in the roster he helped build during the Attitude Era, which included numerous Hall of Fame talents and main event stars. He credited Vince McMahon for allowing him to do his job and expressed satisfaction with the success he achieved during his tenure with WWE.
