Willow Nightingale, known for her participation in intense matches typically associated with male wrestlers, recently discussed the evolution of women’s wrestling on the “Battleground Podcast.” She highlighted the significant progress made in the past two years, noting that women’s matches were once considered “bathroom breaks” but are now gaining more attention and respect.

Nightingale emphasized that the improvement in women’s wrestling is not solely due to management decisions but also reflects fan support and demand. She credited the women’s division for forcing people to pay attention to their performances, resulting in more opportunities and airtime. Additionally, Nightingale acknowledged the positive impact of Mercedes Mone (formerly known as Sasha Banks) joining AEW, praising her advocacy for the women’s division and the name recognition she brings to the company.

While celebrating the progress made, Nightingale also recognized that change in wrestling, like in society at large, is often slow. She expressed satisfaction in seeing the wrestling industry catching up with broader social progress, despite traditionally lagging behind in terms of equality and representation.
