Andrade defeats Hayes in SmackDown’s USA Network debut, earns US title shot against LA Knight
In the main event of SmackDown’s debut on USA Network, Carmelo Hayes and Andrade continued their ongoing rivalry with their fifth match against each other. The series was tied at 2-2 going into this bout, with Andrade winning the first two and Hayes taking the next two. Despite Hayes’ aggressive start, attacking Andrade before the bell, it was Andrade who emerged victorious. He secured a 3-2 lead in their series by successfully executing his finishing move, The Message, from the top rope.
After the match, United States Champion LA Knight made an appearance to congratulate Andrade. Knight revealed that General Manager Nick Aldis had named Andrade as the number one contender for the US title. Although Knight expressed confidence in retaining his championship, the two are set to face off next Friday on SmackDown. This will be Knight’s first title defense since winning the belt from Ludwig Kaiser during a previous SmackDown event in Berlin, Germany.
