AEW Collision under fire for “bait and switch” tactics as advertised stars fail to appear

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has raised concerns about a recent AEW Collision event in Dayton, Ohio. The show advertised nine popular wrestlers, including Adam Page, Jon Moxley, and Chris Jericho, but none of them actually appeared on the card. Meltzer criticized this as a “bait and switch” tactic, pointing out that several of the advertised stars were already in other locations or dealing with injuries.

This situation has sparked worries about AEW’s advertising practices and their potential impact on future ticket sales. Meltzer drew comparisons to similar issues that contributed to the downfall of wrestling promotions like WCW and AWA. He stressed the importance of AEW improving its approach in local markets to avoid a similar fate.

Despite the absence of the advertised stars, the event still featured eight matches. These included a TNT Championship defense by Jack Perry against Christopher Daniels and a main event featuring FTR versus the Grizzled Young Veterans. However, Meltzer emphasized that advertising specific wrestlers and then not delivering them could harm AEW’s ability to draw crowds in the future.
