Sami Zayn honors The Briscoes, credits tag team for his wrestling success
Sami Zayn, formerly known as El Generico in Ring of Honor (ROH), recently paid tribute to The Briscoes, a tag team that greatly impacted his early career. Zayn and his longtime friend Kevin Owens (formerly Kevin Steen) had memorable matches against Mark and Jay Briscoe in ROH, including a highly acclaimed Ladder War in 2007. Zayn shared a highlight package of this match on social media, praising The Briscoes as one of the best tag teams of the past 25 years and crediting them for his success in wrestling.
The tribute comes in the wake of Jay Briscoe’s tragic passing in January 2023 due to a car accident at the age of 38. Zayn expressed his love for Mark Briscoe and his longing for Jay in his post. The impact of The Briscoes on the wrestling world continues to be felt, with Mark Briscoe currently performing in AEW as the ROH World Champion. In honor of Jay’s memory, Zayn and Owens dedicated their WrestleMania 39 main event victory to him, showcasing the lasting influence of The Briscoes on their careers.
The Briscoes are the best tag team of the past 25 years, and on a short list for best of all time. At least a dozen top wrestlers today will tell you the best/toughest tag matches of their careers were with Dem Boys. I wouldn’t be here without them. I miss you Jay. Love you Mark. https://t.co/AQVibeyDnF
