Eric Bischoff criticizes Tony Khan’s leadership in AEW, discusses CM Punk’s firing
Eric Bischoff, a former wrestling executive, recently shared his thoughts on CM Punk’s firing from AEW in 2023. Bischoff believes that Tony Khan, AEW’s owner, had no choice but to fire Punk due to the severity of the situation. However, he also criticized Khan’s leadership, suggesting that the circumstances leading to Punk’s dismissal were partly a result of Khan’s own shortcomings as a leader.
Bischoff pointed out that AEW still struggles with leadership issues, noting a lack of continuity and randomness in the company’s programming. He acknowledged that AEW is making efforts to improve, particularly in focusing more on storytelling. Bischoff emphasized the importance of strong leadership in handling talented performers with strong personalities, drawing from his own experiences in WCW. He expressed hope that Khan is learning from these challenges and improving his leadership skills on the job.
