Swerve Strickland reveals the unique approach behind iconic “Hell of War” match with Dante Fox
Swerve Strickland recently discussed his infamous “Hell of War” match against Dante Fox (now known as AR Fox in AEW) from the Lucha Underground promotion. This match, which took place at Ultima Lucha Tres, is still regarded as one of the most violent wrestling matches in history and remains a fan favorite nearly a decade later.
In an interview on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Strickland explained the thought process behind creating the match. He and Fox were determined to not only raise the bar but to create something unique that couldn’t be replicated. They focused on developing concepts that would only work with their specific positions and abilities, making the match distinctly theirs.
Strickland believes this approach is why fans remain attached to the match years later. He emphasized that the match’s enduring appeal comes from the fact that it was tailored specifically to him and Fox, making it impossible for others to recreate the same feeling and energy.
