Ronda Rousey reveals unconventional path to WWE, including secret tryout disguised as bachelorette party
Ronda Rousey, known as “The Baddest Woman on the Planet,” revealed the behind-the-scenes story of her journey to WWE. Although her official debut came at the 2018 Royal Rumble, negotiations between Rousey and WWE had been ongoing for some time. She met with Triple H while still competing in UFC, and Vince McMahon had dubbed her potential signing as the “Ronda Rousey Project.”
To avoid coming on too strong, Rousey took the initiative herself. She arranged a training session at WWE’s Performance Center under the guise of a bachelorette party activity with friends who were already involved in pro wrestling. This unofficial tryout proved successful, leading to further discussions and eventually her signing with WWE.
Interestingly, Vince McMahon was initially skeptical about Rousey joining WWE, believing she had little to offer beyond her UFC fame. However, as the women’s division in WWE gained momentum, including events like the all-women’s Evolution show, McMahon became convinced of Rousey’s potential value to the company. This change of heart ultimately paved the way for Rousey’s high-profile entry into the world of professional wrestling.
