Oba Femi retains NXT North American Championship in hard-fought battle against Tony D’Angelo
In a thrilling match at WWE NXT: No Mercy, Oba Femi successfully defended his NXT North American Championship against Tony D’Angelo. The hard-hitting contest in Denver saw Femi dominate early on, but D’Angelo showed remarkable resilience. Despite suffering an ankle injury, D’Angelo managed to kick out of Femi’s powerful powerbomb, becoming the first to do so in Femi’s NXT career. However, Femi ultimately secured the victory with two consecutive powerbombs, ending with a sit-out powerbomb.
Oba Femi’s reign as NXT North American Champion now extends to 235 days, putting him within reach of significant records. He’s approaching Wes Lee’s record for the longest single reign at 269 days and Carmelo Hayes’ record for most combined days with the title at 272 days. Meanwhile, D’Angelo’s status remains uncertain due to his ankle injury, with his team consoling him after the match. Had he won, it would have been his first singles championship following his 91-day reign with the NXT Heritage Cup.
