Netflix to Release Vince McMahon Docuseries Without WWE Involvement Amid Misconduct Allegations
Netflix is set to release a six-part docuseries about Vince McMahon titled “Mr. McMahon” on September 25. Originally, WWE Studios was planned to be involved in the production when it was announced in 2020. However, recent reports suggest that WWE will not receive a production credit on the series, likely due to its coverage of the sexual misconduct allegations against McMahon.
Despite WWE’s lack of official involvement, the series will still feature interviews with McMahon, his family, and professional wrestlers. The project is being produced by Chris Smith, known for his work on “Tiger King,” and Bill Simmons, founder and CEO of The Ringer. Each episode will be an hour long and will cover McMahon’s extensive career in professional wrestling.
While WWE Studios isn’t producing this particular series, the company maintains a strong relationship with Netflix. In the near future, “WWE Raw” will begin streaming live on Netflix weekly, marking a significant shift from traditional television broadcasting. This new streaming deal could last anywhere from five to twenty years, signaling a long-term partnership between WWE and Netflix.
