Netflix to Release Six-Part Docuseries on WWE Founder Vince McMahon, Exploring His Rise and Fall
Netflix has announced the release of “Mr. McMahon,” a six-part docuseries about Vince McMahon, the controversial founder of WWE, set to premiere on September 25. The series will explore McMahon’s journey from purchasing his father’s wrestling business to transforming it into a global brand, culminating in his resignation in 2022 and 2023 due to sexual misconduct allegations.
The documentary promises to offer an in-depth look at McMahon’s life and career, featuring interviews with wrestlers, journalists who uncovered the allegations, McMahon’s family, and the former WWE CEO himself. Produced by Bill Simmons and Chris Smith, known for his work on “Tiger King,” the series has evolved since its initial announcement in 2020. While WWE Studios was initially involved as a partner, their current role in the project remains unclear.
Netflix’s promotional poster for “Mr. McMahon” depicts him as a puppet master controlling a smaller version of himself in the ring, hinting at the series’ exploration of his influence and control over the wrestling industry. Despite earlier delays and changes to the project following the public allegations against McMahon, Netflix has decided to move forward with the docuseries, adapting it to include recent events that have shaped McMahon’s legacy.
