Mercedes Mone Praises AEW’s Creative Freedom, Contrasts with WWE’s Approach
Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, is now the TBS Champion in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). In a recent letter, Mone highlighted the differences between WWE and AEW. She described AEW as offering more creative freedom and respect, allowing her to plan storylines with AEW President Tony Khan and her personal writer.
Other former WWE stars, including Adam Copeland, Saraya, and Miro, have also praised AEW’s collaborative approach to creative content. Copeland noted that WWE’s stricter creative process is partly due to external factors like sponsors and shareholders.
Mone debuted in AEW on March 13, 2023, at “AEW Dynamite: Big Business.” Since then, she has won the TBS Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing. She also holds the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship after winning against Stephanie Vaquer at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
This shift in Mone’s career comes after WWE’s creative department transitioned to Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s leadership following her departure from the company in 2022.
