AEW Women’s Division Surges in 2024 with New Signings and Compelling Storylines
The AEW women’s division has experienced a significant boost in 2024, with more women’s matches taking center stage in recent shows. This improvement is attributed to several factors, including the signing of high-profile free agents like Mercedes Mone, Kamille, and Deonna Purrazzo, as well as the return of popular wrestlers Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter from injury. Additionally, compelling storylines between various female wrestlers have contributed to the division’s resurgence.
Hikaru Shida, a three-time AEW Women’s World Champion, expressed her happiness about the increased prominence of women’s matches during a recent stream. She mentioned that headlining TV shows was once a dream for her, but it has now become more common. Shida’s own match recently headlined an episode of AEW Collision, further demonstrating this positive trend.
Following her victory in a multi-woman match, Shida has earned a shot at the TBS Championship, currently held by Mercedes Mone. The two will face off at the upcoming All Out event, where Shida aims to become the first woman to hold both the AEW Women’s World Championship and the TBS Championship. This match also presents an opportunity for Shida to avenge her previous loss to Mone from a recent episode of Dynamite.
