AEW and Impact Wrestling’s Cross-Promotional Partnership: Kenny Omega’s Championship Run and Heel Turn
From late 2020 to late 2021, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Impact Wrestling collaborated on a series of cross-promotional events. The partnership began with a storyline featuring AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, who sought to collect championships from other promotions. Omega was managed by Don Callis, who also held an executive position at Impact Wrestling. Scott D’Amore, former TNA/Impact President, revealed that Callis played a crucial role in establishing this partnership.
D’Amore explained that the collaboration aimed to turn Omega into a villain (heel) by pairing him with Callis, who was known for his ability to generate negative crowd reactions. This strategy led to Omega appearing in Impact Wrestling and winning their World Championship. As part of the crossover, tag team The Good Brothers also made appearances in AEW. The partnership lasted for about ten months, with Omega holding the Impact World Championship for four months before losing it to Christian Cage on an episode of AEW Rampage in August 2021.
